Proffer and his M17 team have now moved on and abandoned this project. We were thinking of producing this scripted mini series. It was inspired by Mark Kurlansky’s novel, Ready For A Brand New Beat. Mark’s book, like many other books on the subject matter, highlights music’s nexus to the ‘60s civil rights movement. The Universal, Jobete song, Dancing In the Street, was originally supposed to be a summer dance hit. But then the 1960’s happened, and the song took on a whole new meaning, becoming the anthem for a changing America.
Today, we have new hope, a new President and Vice President, to lead our world with humanity and inspiration.
We had planned to have stories per episode, of folks from Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and North Carolina coming to North to seek a better life out of the South. They were all drawn by the music happening in the northern part of America at the time- not just Motown music by all music of the day that was relevant.
